God’s Daily MiraclesPosted by Paula White - Thu, July 30, 2009 at 10:03 AM The word “miracle” comes from the latin word miraculum – “object of wonder,” “marvelous event caused by God.” Other related root words are mirari, “to wonder at,” mirus, “wonderful” and smeiros, “to smile, be astonished.” As Christians, we associate miracles with events that can only occur through the intervention and power of our Almighty Father. We look to the supernatural acts of God found in the Bible: Moses parting the Red Sea…Jesus turning water to wine…feeding 5000 with a five loaves and two fish…the “virgin birth” of Christ… But the miraculous hand of God is still present and at work today – transforming the hearts, souls and minds of those that many said couldn’t be changed… healing the bodies of the sick and the terminally ill…feeding the hungry when provision seemed nowhere in sight… I receive praise reports from women who at long last became pregnant although their womb had long been barren…reports from family members who had prayed for a relative’s healing, and indeed received a joyous report from a doctor… from homeowners who, at the final hour, received ‘mysterious’ funds for a desperately-needed mortgage payment…from mothers whose wayward children had finally received the Lord… It goes on and on. The Lord’s mercies are boundless, and His supernatural handiwork is daily touching the lives of untold numbers around us. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of you had experienced the same type of awesome event in your life – perhaps not as dramatic as water turning to wine, or someone being raised from the dead…but an occurrence that did indeed make you wonder at God’s daily intervention on the behalf of you or someone you know and love. Here are just a few recent modern day miracles recorded in the news media: Oklahoma, 2008: a young man pronounced “legally dead”—and about to be harvested for his organs—goes home 48 days later fully conscious and walking…as his mother tells the media she believes God has big plans for her son… During Hurricane Katrina, a disaster relief minister writes of running out of bread for over a hundred people waiting on line to be fed – then praying for God to send bread, and no sooner than he had said, “in Jesus’ Name” did a number of gourmet bread trucks arrive on the scene… In Oklahoma, a young mother alerts News 9 of her “modern day miracle, “ after her baby son—who had undergone a successful heart transplant –- celebrated his first birthday… In Utah, an 11-year-old Boy Scout who had disappeared 4 days earlier was found; his mother is quoted as saying: “People say that the heavens are closed and God no longer answers prayers. We are here to unequivocally tell you that the heavens are not closed, prayers are answered and children come home.” Pastor and religious reporter Paul Prather wrote the book, ‘‘Modern-Day Miracles: How Ordinary People Experience Supernatural Acts of God,” after his own father was miraculously healed of cancer. 20 years ago before writing his book, Prather’s father was diagnosed with an aggressive, terminal cancer that filled his body: he had a tumor on his head, kidneys, and in his bone marrow. But one day his father told Prather that while he had been praying, God had told him that he would be healed. Within two or three days, his father’s cancer “spontaneously disappeared.’’ His father remained cancer free; and when Prather kept running across similar stories of miracles as both a reporter and a pastor, he decided to write his book. So today, if you have a need that only God can supply, or an intervention that only He can perform, continue to believe in our Creator’s ability to work a miracle in your life—because all over our world, God’s supernatural power is still at work…producing daily miracles!
