John 4:3-29

I. God’s Purpose Cannot Miscarry
a. He will have a people who shall believe their God and possess their inheritance
i. A refined people who reflect His image and glory
b. God is hastening the day and the hour of Christian perfection
i. He is being perfected in a people in their spirits and to bring forth His plan
ii. He’s not perfecting “us” but perfecting “Himself” in us
1. perfected (greek = tel leioo) to complete, accomplish or consummate in character
iii. He is conforming you to the image of Christ
1. an image = a reproduction of the form of a person or object
iv. This is not a life merely free from a particular sin but rather a life which is the very life of Jesus Christ reproduced in these fragile earthen vessels of human clay
v. It is a “Christ in YOU”, the hope of glory rising up into the maturity and being formed within you

Galatians 4:19 “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.”

We need to become a people whose heart’s passion is to seek God until Christ Himself is actually formed within us…

c. The outward form is not the issue with God the Almighty
i. The true issue is the posture of the human heart before Him
ii. It’s a matter of your heart. It’s the wellspring of your life

Jeremiah 17: 9 & 10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Mark 7:14-23 nothing outside a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean…..

II. Our Goal is Not to be Merely Good (Moral), But to “See God” and in Seeing Him, to do What He Does
a. John tells us that He who seeks to “see Him just as He is” = purifies himself, just as He is pure

1 John 3:2 -3 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”

Psalms 42:7 “Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.”

b. We can be assumed that each step deeper into the presence of God will reveal areas in our hearts which need to be cleansed

1 John 4:20-21 “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”

c. Our actions speak louder then our words
d. Cleansing must become a way of life
i. It’s simply, just a decision to set your heart and affection on God to seek Him

III. Here is Your Promise…

II Corinthians 3:16-18 (AMP) “But whenever a person turns [in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage, freedom).
And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.”

a. We are being changed to bring forth change
i. God loves you too much to leave you the same
b. The virtue of and institution is not in its doctrine or organization, but resides in the quality of a person it produces
c. We are seeking to be like Jesus, not men
d. We want the kingdom of God, not typical “American Christianity” (religion)
i. Therefore we push to “change” the rules of religion
ii. We are not routine and we are not religious, but we are righteous and our cause is to spearhead spirituality that makes a real difference
iii. We need to be filled with deity, not doctrine
e. Therefore we must be vigilant to submit ourselves passionately and solely to the spirit and words of Jesus, our Lord

IV. Just Like the Disciples of Jesus
a. They were transformed from ordinary people to “powerful” world changers and history makers
i. The were equipped with spiritual authority and became living proof that Christ changes lives that have been surrounded and submitted to Him
b. So can you be also
i. 3 and a half years of undiluted Jesus brought forth the Kingdom of God
ii. All we need is undulated, uninhibited Jesus
1. to change us
2. to change our families
3. to change cities
4. to change nations
iii. We need hearts that are thirsty and desperate for God!!

John 4:4-6 “And he must needs go through Samaria.  Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.”

V. Brief Encounter But a Big Change
a. Jesus had an agenda and assignment to change a city by changing a woman
b. She didn’t go to Him, He went after her

John 6:44 “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

c. She had a whole list of men she had “known” but did not “know”
i. She “had” them, but did not “have” them
d. She is thirsty from a life that is not working
e. She is a woman with an appointment and doesn’t even know it
f. She is walking into a sovereign “set up”
i. As busy as Jesus is, He was sitting on Jacob’s well waiting for her

Psalms 139:17-18 “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.”

John 4:7 “There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.”

g. This empty, depleted and thirst woman comes to the well to draw water, and the first thing Jesus does is ask her to give Him a drink
i. He checked her capacity to water
ii. Whenever you come to church just to “get” or “receive”, you limit your capacity (you move in childhood spirituality)

VI. You Must Be Prepared to “Pour Out” What You Have
a. Can you pour?
b. Can you feed God? Or are you always “needy”?
i. When Jesus discerns the woman is empty, she has no water and nothing to give- He doesn’t condemn her but He has a “cathartic conversation”
1. Cathartic = emotionally purging or purification
ii. In essence, He told her,  “You don’t have an inner well and that’s why you keep running out of water”
1. Often in life, our experiences have clogged or cluttered the lines to our heart
a. Cluttered = is a confused, crowded, disordered state or collection
i. To throw into disorder
ii. To disarrange
iii. Clutter is derived from the Old English word, “clot”
1. As in blood clot
a. A blood clot will eventually kill you unless you get a catheter
2. Catheter = a thin, flexabile tube into the body to permit introduction or withdrawal and to keep the passage open

Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

Pure (Greek Katharos) = cleaned and cleared

VII. God Wants to Clean and Clear Whatever is Hindering You From Coming to the Fullness of Christ’s Character
a. The woman had three (3) things that hindered her from recognizing and receiving her destiny
1. Her religion
2. Her condition
3. Her relations
b. He kept talking (catheterizing) to her
i. Dealing with each individual issue
ii. Penetrating through the pain
iii. Diffusing the defenses

John 6:63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

VIII. There is an Invitation to Receive…
a. Life
b. Water
c. Peace
d. Help
e. Provision
f. Healing

John 7:37-38  “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
