Nehemiah 1:1-4 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.

Recap:
a. God’s purpose is to restore that which has been lost and then to reconstruct that which has been broken down.
b. In 52 days (by October 15th) What looks like rubbish and ruin is going to be restored, repaired and rebuilt to bring forth reformation. A realigning and adjustment to God’s original intent for your life and for His church.
c. God will have a people who shall believe their God and possess their possessions.
d. Reformation comes though restoration which starts with a remnant.
i. The remnant is what is left, what remains.
ii. That which is left over after a part is removed. One who escapes, a survivor

You may look at the “left over” in your life and think how can anything great come from this? It’s so Little!!

1. You have gone through the devastation of…
a. Death
b. Disease
c. Divorce

2. You have gone through the loss of…
a. Friends
b. Family
c. Finances

3. Looking at the little that is left of your…
a. Money
b. Emotion
c. Energy

Zechariah 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

Do not despise small beginnings. God will take what is left and restore.

Restore = to build up again, to repair, to renew

I. Identify the Problem
a. Real power comes not from knowledge but from networks God is expanding you
i. In order to have provision of increase in you and through you, we must first identify and look at the problem
1. You can’t conquer what you don’t confront, and you can’t confront what you don’t identify
2. The solution is meaningless if you don’t make the problem real

Nehemiah 1:3 (NIV) They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

b. The restoration period (from 536-420BC) follows the period of exile for God’s people
i. It starts with Zerubabbel, who led a remnant of nearly 50,000 people back to the land to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem with the encouragement of the prophets Haggai and Zechariah
ii. It continued under Ezra, who returned with less then 2,000 people
iii. It was completed by Nehemiah, who reconstructed the city

II. Nehemiah Chapter 1 has 3 Elements
a. Inquiry (verses 1-3)
i. His inquiry takes place in the 9th month on the 20th year
1. 9 = the number of finality (final)
2. 20 = the number of redemption (we are entering September, 2009 (09/of 20/09)
ii. His questions lead to his purpose
b. Involvement (verse 4)
c. Intercession (verses 5-11)

Remember this principle for this study…
1. The Temple = the spirit of a man (center of worship)
2. The Walls of the City = the soul of a man
3. The Land = the body of man
a. The walls of the Jerusalem (the soul) is broken down
i. Most believers today understand that they are forgiven. They know Jesus as their savior
ii. But, they are not “whole”. Wholeness = without fragmentation
1. Identify = Know who you are
2. Security = Knowing everything will be alright/safe
3. Acceptance = Knowing you are loved
4. Purpose = Knowing why you are here
iii. The “Temple” (spirit) is restored, but the “Walls” (soul) and gates are destroyed
1. there were 12 gates to the city (12 is the # of governing)
2. they are the “entrances” and “exits”
3. they are the things you permit and prohibit
4. they are the things you allow or disallow
a. Gate = (lit) an opening, a door or a spirit. (fig) = to think or estimate
b. Walls = the wall of protection, the place of joining. The represent defense or boundaries
i. A boundary is like a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. It represents self control. Boundaries protect and preserve us.

Proverbs 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

III. God is Going to Heal Every Place You Have Been Hurt
a. A Mind that has doubts, confusion, imaginations, reasoning against the word of God (assailing or unclean thoughts
b. Emotions that have fears, lusts, anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy
c. A Will that is weak, resistant, no confidence, growth, always hindered and hopelessness
i. We cannot see Christ corporately manifested and become a church until we as individuals embrace true Christ likeness

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Nehemiah 2:20 Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.

Arise = come into our being
Build = (Hebrew) to obtain children, rebuild repair, establish, cause to continue, establish a family, set up

Declared by the Spirit of God…. I am restored, “BACK AGAIN”

Nehemiah 2:17-20 Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
