Nehemiah 1:1-4 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, I. God is Building… b. A place and a people with His Ephesians 1:9-10 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 3. He desires to bring the living Christ into each of us as individuals II. Like in the Days of Nehemiah “Neh” (name) = Comforter b. The restoration of the city of Jerusalem began under Zerrubabel III. Reformation (Greek) = to straighten thoroughly, or to rectify d. Reformation does not have to do with building another form but to re-establish the original IV. Religion does not Work, but Relationship with God Does Reformation comes when people make a conscious decision to change the predictable outcome of their future… to bring forth reformation (our conclusion) we have to be rebuilt, repaired, and restored V. Nehemiah Chapter 1 (the 16th book of the Bible) His questions were not about the problem, but about the purpose. The response from his brother reveals the condition… d. Verse 3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. VI. Remnant = Psalms 124:7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. 1. Stop asking “why” it happened and start asking “why” you survived it (why were you left) and you will discover Tough times call for tough people… 3. The strength of God’s hand is often dictated by the strength of the times Genesis 45:7 (NIV) But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. Footnotes: Or save you as a great band of survivors 1. Remnant = to swell up Genesis 45:7 (KJV) And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 1. Posterity (Hebrew) = a remainder or residual (surviving, final portion that had escaped) Ezra 9:8 (NIV) But now, for a brief moment, the LORD our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage. Zephaniah 2:9 (NIV) Therefore, as surely as I live,” declares the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, “surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah— Zechariah 8:12 (NIV) The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people. VII. God Always Looks Through the Remnant c. The remnant is what the boy who gave his lunch to Jesus to feed the multitudes and went home with 12 baskets 2. Jesus put it in 12 baskets 3. God is establishing His government with what’s left in the earth today 2 Kings 19:31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
