Psalms 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Exodus 25:8-9 (NIV) Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.

Psalms 132:9-4 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

I. Identify Your Worship
a. Worship = weorthscype = to shape or build worth, value or respect
i. Weorth = worth, value or respect
ii. Scype = to shape or build something
b. Worthship = denotes the worthiness of the one receiving special honor or devotion
c. Worship is your response to what you value the most
i. Actions speak louder then words
ii. Follow your time, money, affection, energy, priorities, loyalty, priorities and you will discover who or what is sitting on the throne of your life
iii. What you worship is what you value

Psalms 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

d. God’s throne is as significant as you want to make it through your praise
e. As you worship Him, you are shaping a throne for God Almighty Himself in your life and in your church
f. When you worship Him you are sacrificing your life and body on an altar of surrender as a living sacrifice

Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

i. True worship is born when true sacrifice occurs
ii. It’s what you lay at the altar that seasons you to be a true worshipper

Exodus 20:3 (NIV) You shall have no other gods before me.

g. Worship = weorthscype = scip/ship
i. When we offer worship to God we literally become “vessels” or “ships” immersed in His infinite worth and value
ii. This is where we discover the art of altar building
1. potters used to put their earthenware vases in an oven to temper them (did not have technical gear like we have today so they would “play it by ear”)
2. no two pots were made alike, they knew the pots were done when the heat from the oven would “make it sing” in the furnace
3. a “noise” would emanate from the tempered pottery in the heat of a furnace when it reached the proper point
a. the affliction we go through is the environment God uses for us to excel
b. when you are in the heat of affliction, the only thing you can do that has any substance or value is worship

Isaiah 48:10-11 (NIV) See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.

h. True worship produces inspiration and generates enthusiasm and passion (regardless of situations or circumstances)
i. It exerts an enlivening and exalting influence and makes you feel fully alive

II. Let’s Examine the Characteristics of Inspiring Worship

Philippians 3:3 (NIV) For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh

Matthew 15:8-9 (NIV) These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men

a. A Matter of the Heart
i. Vain = (greek=maten) through the idea of tentative manipulation, unsuccessful search, folly, to no purpose
ii. The outward acts of worship can be pointless, useless and empty if not from the heart
iii. The engagement of the heart in worship is the coming alive of the feelings, emotions and affections of the heart
iv. These feelings come from a circumcised and renewed heart
1. Circumcision = to cut short or to curtail (to dock or do away with the unnecessary) to cut or unveil.
2. its when we repent and put our faith in Jesus and dethrone ourselves and enthrone Him in our hearts
3. the spirit of God circumcises our heart

Ezekiel 36:25 (NIV) I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.

b. Worship by the Spirit
i. We must welcome the Holy Spirit and worship by the Spirit of God = His activity
ii. True worship that is not pretense but inspired is a vital connection between our human spirit and the Spirit of God
iii. It is the Holy Spirit that manifests the presence of the living God
iv. Worship by the Spirit becomes a life transforming encounter with God

c. Glorying in Christ
i. When Jesus ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to live with us with a primary work to bring God glory
ii. Through successive levels of purity, the house of the Lord will see and reflect the glory of God

Ephesians 5:27

Titus 2:14

1Thessalonians 5:23

Colossians 1:22

Philippians 2:15

iii. True worship is centered on the person, work and glory of Jesus Christ
iv. What does it mean to “glory in Christ Jesus”?
1. It means to declare His praises to testify to His redemptive work in our lives
2. to declare His worthiness and to declare our love for Him

d. No Confidence in the Flesh
i. God gives grace to the humble but opposes the proud
1. pride = trusts in human effort in what we can do for God ourselves
ii. We must renounce all confidence in the flesh reliance on human effort

Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

Psalms 127:1 (NIV) Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.
