And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
—Philippians 4:7

Has life ever caught you off guard and knocked you off your feet? Everything goes on with its routine pattern, then out of nowhere you suddenly get laid off your job, the car dies in the middle of an intersection while you’re driving the children to school, or you find out your spouse is cheating on you! What are you going to do now? In most cases, after the anger has subsided, you become fearful.

How am I going to pay for this? Why is this happening to me? Unfortunately, these are common emotions and thoughts that you may be facing right now. I want to encourage you that no matter what happens to you, God will not go on vacation. In fact, He is with you right now.

There is a peace with God that can calm the troubled heart in the midst of your greatest tragedy. How do I know, you ask? I know because, despite my past of abuse, I am recovered and victorious. But it wasn’t always “happy days” for me. God had to show me something from His Word. It is the revelation of His peace. This peace passes all understanding. To pass means to go beyond your natural limits. That means God will deposit a peace that will make you go further than ever before, especially when you need it the most. It will pass your understanding or “head knowledge.”

God’s peace surpasses your head knowledge, then guards your heart (emotions) and your mind (perceptions) through Christ Jesus. It is the anointing of Christ that comes upon you in a time of crisis and clothes you with His peace. This peace is a calm inner knowing that everything is going to be all right. You do not need to know how it is going to get better, just that it will. You may not have two pennies, but God is still Jehovah Jireh, your provider. He shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.

The word peace is used to describe harmony that exists when a relationship is sound or complete. It does not imply the absence of conflict, but peace is a positive statement that means all is well. So remember God’s goodness and place your trust in Him. He will be your stronghold that will shelter you through your storm.
