Paula White Ministries Proudly Supports Darlene Bishop's Home for LifeMonday, October 15, 2007 Paula White Ministries proudly supports Darlene Bishop’s Home for Life, in Monroe, Ohio, providing a nurturing home environment, education, and counseling services for pregnant teens, and homeless and orphaned girls.
The Darlene Bishop Home for Life was founded in July of 2003, by internationally acclaimed TV host, speaker, author, and pastor Darlene Bishop, with a mission to offer expectant teenage moms an alternative to abortion. In an interview Bishop shared, “Almost 30 years ago, God birthed in me a vision to build a home for teenage unwed mothers as an alternative to abortion. He birthed in me a compassion for girls in this type of crisis. The church has rightfully preached against abortion for many years, but offered little or no viable alternatives.” The Darlene Bishop Home for Life is a 23,000 square-foot facility, where clients receive meals and housing, educational training, parenting, life-skills, job readiness, and Christian instruction free of charge. In the past facilities such as Home for Life—once known as “homes for unwed mothers”—were a common part of society’s fabric, providing a sanctuary for unmarried, pregnant young women who were abandoned, thrown out, and/or ostracized by their homes and communities. But as social mores and thinking changed, combined with advances in birth control and legalized abortion, these kinds of homes became almost non-existent. Today, teenage girls are offered few options for safe havens in which to make decisions and choices for their future, or for their unborn child’s. Responding to the felt needs of non-pregnant teenage girls in crisis, Home for Life has also opened its doors to homeless and orphaned young women in need of shelter and life-skills training. The program director for the home, Beth Ward, shared that the Home for Life is all about helping teenage girls make positive decisions for themselves and the new lives they will be responsible for. “Girls from across the country can apply to come here. It doesn’t matter what religion, race or background they come from, we want to help,” stated Ward. Paula White Ministries is honored to support Darlene Bishop’s Home for Life as it transforms young lives and futures through sharing the good news of Christ’s love-in-action.
