We Are The Spirit-Led Sons of God
A New Teaching Article

"21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Isaiah 30:21
Human beings are finite creatures while on earth. We are confined to a body and we cannot see all angles of the multi-dimensional situations that we experience called “life.” We are limited. If we are honest with ourselves, living life through our own choices and in our own strength can result in a train wreck of a life, or at best, a life void of guidance from God, our Creator.
We crave the comfort that comes from being guided by the Holy Spirit. We know that when we follow Him, we can’t go wrong, no matter what troubles come down the road. People crave an answer to the forks in the road of life. We want to know the right thing to do for the best possible outcome, but we can’t find it ourselves.
God promises to guide us through His Holy Spirit. Every believer can and should be led by the Holy Spirit. How can a person get in the will of God without His guidance and empowerment? We can’t.
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14
We are the adopted sons of God!
Our world is, and even many believers are, craving the spiritual guidance that can only be filled by the guidance and the wellspring of life that the Holy Spirit leaves in its path. Satan offers a sad and very cheap imitation of the things God alone, through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the bestowing of the Holy Spirit, can provide. There are even believers who don’t know that we can be led by Him daily, and as a result, they are desperately lacking for God’s awesome provision of guidance through the Holy Spirit.
“While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
After Pentecost, the gift of the Holy Spirit had been given, but there were still disciples who had not received Him yet!! Paul goes on to clarify and ask questions about where these believers were in their walk so he could understand what message the Lord wanted to give them.
“So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” Act 19:3-6
These were believers who had repented of their sins, and believed in Jesus. They had not yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit. Just like in Acts, there are believers today who they need the empowerment and guidance that only God can give. There are unbelievers who are skeptical about this idea of “event Christianity” – that getting saved is an event and then you go on with your life the same way as before. And rightly so! Following Jesus Christ is an event, but it is an event that continues. Following God through Jesus Christ is an eternal event, done day after day by the guidance of the Holy Spirit – the very breath of God that whispers to you His instructions in your daily life. Following His instructions daily builds a momentum in your life that leads you to the ultimate plan of God for your life. Following the instructions of the Holy Spirit is like building your life brick by brick. Soon, God’s purpose for your life will become evident as He leads you into your calling, to your lifelong mate, to people who you can reach for Him.
I would encourage you to read on your own John chapters 14, 15 and 16. These are the “Holy Spirit” chapters in the Bible, where Jesus explains the gift of the Holy Spirit and who the Holy Spirit is. Remember that the Holy Spirit operates by God’s Word only and He will never, ever ask you to do anything contrary to the Word of God OR say anything that contradicts the Word of God. We are going to talk more about the awesome privilege of being led by God’s Spirit, such as gifts, fruit and spiritual warfare. We are the sons of the living God and we have the promise and deep assurance of guidance and empowerment through His Spirit! Please follow along with us as we learn more about the awesome power that comes through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit through relationship with Jesus Christ!
