A life of plenty has an attitude of gratitude as its main ingredient!

We are approaching the season we call Thanksgiving. This is a time in which many of us will gather with families and show gratitude for all that we have. But do you feel you have little to be grateful for?
We are in a time where many people have lost many things… The whole world seems to be running backwards and it is easier than ever to lose sight of the many things we have to grateful for. Perhaps you feel you have less to be grateful for than ever because…
You maybe one of many who have lost their home or their jobs in the worst economy of our times
You may have lost a loved one too soon
You may have lost a meaningful relationship
You may have lost your good health
You may have lost your sense of purpose or direction
You may have even lost your way with God
OR
Perhaps you have simply failed to recognize God’s desire for you to live your life with an Attitude of Gratitude.
I too have had times where I have struggled to carry an Attitude of Gratitude!
Life sometimes produces circumstances that can rob us all of our thankfulness. But in these moments I recall the 5 principles of gratitude that David teaches us in Psalm 116. Perhaps no one in the Bible understood the power of maintaining an Attitude of Gratitude more-so than King David. He was a man who recognized that God had delivered him from the worst of circumstances, and he declared that he would show his gratitude forever and ever.
David recognized God’s presence in his darkest hour! AND GAVE THANKS!

Take a moment to read Psalm 116 right now- Study it- Cherish it-
I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
The cords of death entangled me,
The anguish of the grave came over me;
Then I called on the name of the LORD:
“LORD, save me!”
The LORD is gracious and righteous;
Our God is full of compassion.
The LORD protects the unwary;
When I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
For the LORD has been good to you.
For you, LORD, have delivered me from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling,
That I may walk before the LORD
In the land of the living.
I trusted in the LORD when I said,
“I am greatly afflicted”;
in my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”
What shall I return to the LORD
For all his goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
And call on the name of the LORD.
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
In the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD
Is the death of his faithful servants.
Truly I am your servant, LORD;
I serve you just as my mother did;
You have freed me from my chains.
I will sacrifice a thank offering to you
And call on the name of the LORD.
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
In the presence of all his people,
In the courts of the house of the LORD-
In your midst, Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD
Wow! That is powerful. David carried an Attitude of Gratitude in all things and, remember, that David was a man after God’s own heart according to 1 Samuel 13:14
There are 5 powerful principles that Psalm 116 reveals about David’s remarkable relationship of Thankfulness with God that I want to share with you-
1. “I will lift up the cup of salvation”- David marked himself as the LORDS through salvation. The first thing you must do is mark yourself as belonging to God through accepting and recognizing Christ as your SAVIOR in all things!
2. “And call on the name of the LORD”- David understood the power of worshipful prayer. The second thing you must do is talk to God with worship in your prayers. He is your HEAVENLY FATHER and loves when you seek and praise him.
3. “I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of his people”-David understood the importance of rituals in the midst of God’s chosen. The third thing you must do is openly serve with your brothers and sisters in Christ. This includes partaking in holy rituals like communion, remembering God’s holidays and gathering with other believers for the declaration of God’s Word.
4. “I will sacrifice a thank offering to you”- David knew the importance of sacrificial offering. The fourth thing you must do is give a gift of thanks to God from your sustenance. When you withhold from God, he will withhold from you.
5. He ends with “Praise the LORD”-David ended all he did with praise. The fifth thing you must do is learn to seal God’s promise and provision with praise! God takes pleasure in praise, and it is important that we end all that we do, including the previous four things, with PRAISE! Praise is your supernatural sealant.
If you can grab hold of these TRUTHS, then you can TRANSFORM whatever environment you inhabit to one of Thanksgiving
The greatest thing about that TRANSFORMATION is the Attitude of Gratitude you will develop, which will allow you truly experience the supernatural in everyday life!
You will begin to be thankful for the little things, the big things, and everything in between. In turn you will have more and more to grateful for! God blesses an Attitude of Gratitude! I cannot emphasize this enough!
